Wanted to get peoples thoughts on when it would be safe to eat clams and oysters post Flo. Around Wilmington, I don't think the fisheries are open yet, but I think around Carteret Co is open. I feel like I want to give it a little while before I eat shellfish again. Thoughts?

I love oysters and clams and I'm not planning to eat NC filter-feeders this season

Maybe Superbowl before I eat em, that's if water is clean by Christmas.
And I sell em. Not getting a oyster endorsment this year, if I want eat em I will not sell em. Just my take on it.

Most of the local restaurants are getting oysters out of Virginia right now, hopefully they are all being safe that way.

Thanks Matador. When I went to the site the first thing I saw was 'Fanny Bay'. That's the oysters I had earlier this year while in California. Incredibly good!

So I see that Stump Sound and Topsail oysters are available and actually have been for about 2 weeks. I know the state checks for water quality but damn that's a fast recovery.

I'm going next week and getting some for the first time this year. The water around Topsail is gin clear, not that that proves anything, but its been clear for a while. To be on the safe side, they will be consumed with plenty of alcohol just in case.

My mother and I shared a dozen Stump Sounders lightly steamed 2 weeks ago. Both still here. She is 80. Riddle? Why are all of the trout in the Topsail Island area 13.5 inches long?

We had several bushels of stump sound oysters 2 weeks ago and everyone that ate them thought they were delicious and no health issues.
